Dr. Harper originally trained and worked in the humanities before attending medical school at the University of Colorado and completing her psychiatry residency at Johns Hopkins Hospital. She then practiced consultative psychiatry at Virginia Mason Medical Center for six years, serving as Section Head of the Outpatient Behavioral Health Department.
Dr. Harper offers medication management and psychotherapy. She believes that wellness requires a combination of biological equilibrium, coping skills, and connection with deeper sources of meaning. She enjoys partnering with patients who take an active role in their journey, who want to identify and vitalize hidden reserves of strength, and who may be curious about the non-logical parts of their psyche.
She treats a variety of general mental health conditions and has a particular interest in bipolar spectrum disorders, OCD, reproductive psychiatry, and LGBTQ+ mental health. She uses an evidence-based approach to medication management as well as individualized variations of CBT, ACT, ERP, and psychodynamic therapy.
